It's been a long learning process..........however I'm pleased to say that Chris has now finished the sculpting of the French infantry - and they have been tweaked a bit to make them fit in even better with the older figures.
He has also taken the opportunity to add two new figures - a standard bearer:
And also an NCO without turnbacks (so the chap with a sword I discussed in the last post is an officer).
In addition to the tricorns there will be a grenadier head
And a bonnet de police (not quite finished)
The 3D printing is now all sorted, below is a casting of the French infantryman with turnbacks advancing (right), shown alongside an advancing Austrian (er left), as you can see they are a pretty good match. (Since this version the facial features exaggerated a little, and the tricorn enlarged, see image).
I should get a set of test moulds shortly - AND THEN THE CAVALRY!

I suspect they will be very useful on the Russians in waistcoats for French in Canada?

and for making militia out of figures without turncoats as well as those in waistcoats. I'm not sure what others will use them for. A good start for early French dragoon caps perhaps. Of course one could also use some on ordinary French infantry as what they are, forage caps, perhaps marking them as garrison troops or European militia or volunteers or just a few in a unit to indicate that a particular regiment is at less than peak efficiency.

It is good to see everything moving forward again. I see that the new bayonets are quite different from what has been done before.

DeleteThe bayonets are a bit more slender but look fine. (I file mine down to triangular anyway as I think the old ones look too heavy).
I have checked with the sculptor, unfortunately it is too late to add the pockets - sorry I missed that!
