Just a quick update to let you know that Chris Tubb is currently sculpting the British infantry, and I have suggested he progress with 4 moulds as discussed back in January 2023 (yes that long ago), text in red are minor changes I have suggested since 2023:
Mould 1: Officer & Drummer
- Officer with shoulder sash and hand to take partisan, musket or sword.
- 1 x spontoon for officer
- Drummer with hanging sleeves
- 1 x tricorne head
- 1 x grenadier mitre head*
* I wonder if it is worth replacing this with a tricorne with a 'Minden Rose', (officers did not wear mitre caps, which if wanted can come from the grenadier mould)?
Mould 2: Standard Bearer and NCO
- Standard Bearer (Officer with shoulder sash)
- NCO and hand to take pole arm or musket.
- NCO musket
- 1 x tricorne head
- 1 x grenadier mitre head*
* Perhaps another variation of a tricorne with a 'Minden Rose'?
Mould 3 - Hat Men (tricorne) - without sword, belly box, or shoulder wings.
- Marching torso
- Arm for marching
- Advancing torso
- 2 x tricorne head
Mould 4 - Grenadiers (mitre cap) - with sword, shoulder wings, belly box and match box.
- Marching torso
- Arm for marching
- Advancing torso
- 2 x mitre cap head (I have suggested one with 'GR' and one with 3 feathers)
As always feedback would be welcome to help try and get this right.
This is the news I wanted to hear!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for your layouts, with the Minden rose tricorn too.
Only thing I would prefer is blank mitre plates so I can paint my own
Thanks - I will see if it is possible for a blank mitre,
DeleteGood news hearing, that the brits gets done. The layout of the 4 moulds are good. As for the hats decoration (roses), I think it is a good idea, as long as there are also normal hats without decoration in one of the 4 moulds. As for the plate of the mitre, I agree with Peter Michael Prow: less decoration is better in order to be able to paint all regiments. I am not against elements of decoration, but the elements should be such that work for many regiments. Last point I would like to see is a single musket with bajonet but without a hand. With 4 moulds, I think a place could be found. The single musket could be used to make musket pyramides for example for the artillery crew or a camp. It can also be useful for modifications of figures. Beside that, I look forward for the new figures and will certainly buy the moulds and hope the PA will continue to extend the serie of SYW.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your suggestions.
DeleteI will get in touch with the sculptor and ask about making a plain mitre, along with the two I suggested - possibly in one of the command moulds.
I doubt there will be space for the musket, as it tends to be a struggle to fit in the essential parts to fit the figures.
This is good news, and will definitely lead to the purchase of them and some of the french moulds. Off topic, but what colour green do you use for your bases? Does it cover well? I'm having a bit of a time trying to find something I like.
ReplyDeleteThe sculpting is well underway - so hopefully they should not be too far away.
DeleteThe green paint I use is a mixed Dulux vinyl matt emulsion ref. 77YY13238. I would have preferred something a bit more yellow - however that is what I ended up with.
It generally takes 3 coats to get a uniform finish. If you are gloss varnishing the figures I suggest you paint the first coat on the bases prior to any gloss varnish as it seems to cover better, at the same time I generally paint the first 1 or 2 coats on the MDF bases before sticking on the figures. (I paint the figures stuck to card strips, so the bases need to be cleaned up and the edges repainted prior to sticking on the bases).
I think it takes almost as long to do the plain bases as textured, as everything has to be done neatly.
Thanks for your reply. House paint is a sensible choice if you're doing so much basing.
ReplyDeleteHow did you end up choosing this colour? It does look pretty good.
I paint my 'old school' table top and block hills with it as well, so I use a lot.
DeleteThe colour was originally an attempt to match paint with my old TSS terrain boards, but I could never quite get it right as the colour scanners could not scan the flock finish on the boards.
