My intention is to keep this blog dedicated to the 40mm toys, however just to fill a bit of space I will give bit of an update on what I have been doing instead..............</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">28mm Thirty Years War</h3><p>I've spent much of the last 6 months painting and playing with my new 28mm Thirty Years War armies. When I retired (a couple of years ago), I received a pile of lead as a leaving gift, which I have finally got around to painting. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqc9BtD0HFuVpePQT7vVuKz6nHduNHORthzzu7p2qyMXMIE2PYSCeSe13DeC8UvxqBg6f7JSBWNAXyNumOoqEfwgM96xGla2vOPLiuTQRJPT1v0z2N1esVZM1zOVqinMAiQ-R0kJujGm0lEWdIqtvv_YaJbPYyqFAqnMhnVfv6Gw8rve8dy4unO950nBFR/s4080/20231119_145415.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3060" data-original-width="4080" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqc9BtD0HFuVpePQT7vVuKz6nHduNHORthzzu7p2qyMXMIE2PYSCeSe13DeC8UvxqBg6f7JSBWNAXyNumOoqEfwgM96xGla2vOPLiuTQRJPT1v0z2N1esVZM1zOVqinMAiQ-R0kJujGm0lEWdIqtvv_YaJbPYyqFAqnMhnVfv6Gw8rve8dy4unO950nBFR/w400-h300/20231119_145415.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>The figures are mostly from the Old Glory's excellent renaissance ranges, well worth considering if you are planning that building armies in that period, Many of the figures are from their ECW range as dress was pretty similar both in Britain and in Central Europe, the only real issue is that a lot of the ECW cavalry castings have triple bar lobster helmets, these were not common on the continent, so I have replaced them with continental types, using separately purchased heads from Redoubt Miniatures. Note that the Old Glory figures are towards the smaller end of the 28mm offerings, they probably fit with Foundry and First Corps.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQncAuRIEUkud9Jwb7KOuoc9qT9UdqhuSZP6y9jq_Mtms7fYKhE9jjUtJRPGomBO_04CQymbIGUMQ_gRYrLu7Xl2LPdBJIIfYNcK3nQvgRFHe-suUk7ilwglf6A6GbchQWRUc1cxQcXH44F2GCn2jZxI2P7RuKKXvhyphenhyphenHexIWcHcfrhgAuyMVA3_CO_5RL6/s4080/20231119_145324.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3060" data-original-width="4080" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQncAuRIEUkud9Jwb7KOuoc9qT9UdqhuSZP6y9jq_Mtms7fYKhE9jjUtJRPGomBO_04CQymbIGUMQ_gRYrLu7Xl2LPdBJIIfYNcK3nQvgRFHe-suUk7ilwglf6A6GbchQWRUc1cxQcXH44F2GCn2jZxI2P7RuKKXvhyphenhyphenHexIWcHcfrhgAuyMVA3_CO_5RL6/w400-h300/20231119_145324.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>For rules we have been using the Liber Militum 'Tercios' rules, which give a fun game - again worth considering if you want to play that period.<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5BEUrDWDIygbLEjZSegro8JAbbJQJhMIkhU1RstMxGcf4L8kCQS0smJQlNbj_ztm0EqfVqDFF41i208vqv7gb8fTl289R8yXwSq37dybCXBBDDtQxX_ne3taXf7ntF4lZu8l0z7-x75dqSb_vHFsoiKfcRNw2d5CNvJFx9D588Ao6bpUeCDYtqre12r6G/s4080/20231119_145205.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3060" data-original-width="4080" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5BEUrDWDIygbLEjZSegro8JAbbJQJhMIkhU1RstMxGcf4L8kCQS0smJQlNbj_ztm0EqfVqDFF41i208vqv7gb8fTl289R8yXwSq37dybCXBBDDtQxX_ne3taXf7ntF4lZu8l0z7-x75dqSb_vHFsoiKfcRNw2d5CNvJFx9D588Ao6bpUeCDYtqre12r6G/w400-h300/20231119_145205.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">3D Printing</h3><p></p><div>The other distraction is that I now have a resin printer to add to the filament printer I've had for some time. My main reason for originally going for a 3D printers is, that many of my figure collections are of older rangers, which are often smaller than more modern offerings which simply do not fit in with them.</div><div><br /></div><div>For example, I have a large collection of 20mm WW2 tanks and AFVs, some of which I have had for over 40 years. At the time I started the collection the only vehicles readily available were from Airfix and Matchbox, which are 1/76 scale, these I later supplemented with Fujimi/Nitto again 1/76. There are now lots more vehicles available from the likes of PSC, Armourfast, Zvezda etc, however these are mostly 1/72, and I simply cannot live with the size difference. 1/76 vehicles are available in resin, but often at a very high price.</div><div><br /></div><div>With the ability print my own vehicles I can now print pretty much any vehicle I like, and scale it to 1/76 to fit in with my old collection. The filament printer produced some nice models, but simply cannot handle shallow sloping surfaces which come out very distinctly stepped. The resin printer does a much better job of it, I initially put off buying a resin printer due to the need to wash prints in alcohol, however there are now some better water washable resins on the market so I have taken the plunge.</div><div><br /></div><div>Prince August have now gone over to digital sculpting, the first digital figures in the SYW range being with the French. For the game I decided to use the Commands and Colors (it's American) board game system, something I often do for my 15mm Napoleonic games. Although the American War of Independence variant 'Tricorne' is available, and would be expected to be suitable for the SYW battles, I find those rules have the feel of large skirmishes rather than major confrontations; so I decided to use the Napoleonic set, with a few amendments I will discuss later. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-ygRhssls8GcyCTrAhuDZX1MraNzgJlGWgv9-xYa9fEwDNSQVYMgVNuNwo_PGeXCFc54ogm-eRbCexqRmfXt8UqGB9UvCC9U2mNLqLVtMTvnBwY2MFsMGGlc07fkW6v7yQpIIW33eZbWN-NoQx3b84oUk0OPCdH0b9MQylCYLi9yncW2yABIfVfkJXv7T/s1164/20230617_104118.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="873" data-original-width="1164" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-ygRhssls8GcyCTrAhuDZX1MraNzgJlGWgv9-xYa9fEwDNSQVYMgVNuNwo_PGeXCFc54ogm-eRbCexqRmfXt8UqGB9UvCC9U2mNLqLVtMTvnBwY2MFsMGGlc07fkW6v7yQpIIW33eZbWN-NoQx3b84oUk0OPCdH0b9MQylCYLi9yncW2yABIfVfkJXv7T/w400-h300/20230617_104118.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">The Table</h3><p>First of all I need to make both a thank you and apology to Martyn Cartledge who kindly let me use his terrain for the weekend, even though not attending himself:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>A big thank you for letting me use his 12' x 6' hand made cloth marked out in 180mm (across flats) hexes, and matching MDF hills & woods. For playability I decided to allocate 4 hexes at the front to give Zieten's hussars space to manoeuvre, and two hexes at the rear for Penavaire's cuirassiers, leaving 12 hexes for the infantry.</p><p>According to Kronoskaff there were 33 Prussian battalions present, and after allowing for say 3 battalions off road that left 30 on the road, so each game 'regiment' would represent about 2.5 battalions, so in the game there were 13 infantry 'regiments'; 12 on the road and one off. According to Duffy there were 19,500 Prussian infantry present, so each regiment on the table represented about 1500 men. Based on the order of battle, the Prussian infantry was represented as follows:</p><div style="text-align: left;"><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>1 Regiment of Guards (Gd)</li><li>6 Regiments of Musketeers (M)</li><li>3 Regiments of Fusiliers (F)</li><li>3 'Regiments' of Grenadiers (G) - I know they did not have regiments!</li></ul></div><p></p><div style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1650" data-original-width="3337" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAhgw8v84e4bcwhCVLgCEvjDRnILEi07Tkrwq7BJ562-a4ppcBxC8BU9uKDYGOw3UVFOhWXPuUZuF28pgsU_70aYg8C7CsLO3w2v7l0HW7kxfLpmIONBSJSqZISVRHWbpAl1D0gW940HnPMAbwbgwGcZ1qFtj-MuXGE5QCWV-buRvV6j18YnLBnuca91sh/w400-h198/CCI23072023_00000%20(3).jpg" style="font-family: inherit;" width="400" /></div><div>Using the same process for the information I had available I came up with opposing armies as follows:</div><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Prussian</h3><p></p><ul><li>1 Regiment of Guards (Gd)</li><li>3 'Regiments' of Grenadiers (G)</li><li>6 Regiments of Musketeers (M)</li><li>3 Regiments of Fusiliers (F)</li><li>5 Regiments of Cuirassiers (C)</li><li>3 Regiments of Dragoons (D)</li><li>4 Regiments of Hussars (H)</li><li>2 Batteries of Artillery (I ignored the masses of battalion guns)</li></ul><div><br /></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; The exception to this is a localised wash of Winsor and Newton 'Peat Brown' ink on the hands and faces to bring out the detail, I do this after a first coat of spray gloss varnish so that it does not stain, then tidy up with flesh prior to a final brushed gloss coat of Tamiya clear gloss.</p><p>On these I also dry brushed the hats a little to bring out the texture. Initially I dry brushed white which looked way to harsh, so I went over it with a dry brush in black - so I suppose it is like doing it in grey. On the subject of heads, I struggled getting decent castings in my 'scrap metal', so these are mostly cast in model metal (the bodies are about 50/50).</p></div></div>SteveMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09750604219474369883noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7949706697278532115.post-34016851445753777062023-03-02T12:09:00.009+00:002023-03-03T20:00:58.460+00:00Hussars - painted at last!<p>I have finally got around to casting and painting up a couple of units of hussars. I don't know how everyone else is getting on with these moulds, but I found that they needed a lot of venting before I could get decent castings - they seem to be working fine now.</p><p>As I have said in the past I tend to be pretty easy going when it comes to interpreting uniforms, opting for things I fancy rather than strict interpretations; and I used that approach with the hussars.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Prussian Hussar Regiment No.7 - von Malachowski</h3><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEIOildtM4aY5BlfqYPE3GCBYgHOWax7J_LUluC05eTcE2-50KOBdGFpB0s7drOZZpNZdutvNhXvDDB5ilL0JQLxcL6x7AhWS1LTzTkBE8IGRnYlA0bXvCROS5IccNhHzuS2DxY03qSVTO6u2hHdao3LPJHNV_UNdPnpB5q_Ade4UJYR3-v-w78Zyl8A/s4080/20230302_110831.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3060" data-original-width="4080" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEIOildtM4aY5BlfqYPE3GCBYgHOWax7J_LUluC05eTcE2-50KOBdGFpB0s7drOZZpNZdutvNhXvDDB5ilL0JQLxcL6x7AhWS1LTzTkBE8IGRnYlA0bXvCROS5IccNhHzuS2DxY03qSVTO6u2hHdao3LPJHNV_UNdPnpB5q_Ade4UJYR3-v-w78Zyl8A/w400-h300/20230302_110831.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />In assembling the unit I made one significant change; back in 2017 (see post 20/03/2017) Aly Morrison made some heads with a mirliton streamer extended, and I used these heads on my figures. For these actions, Frederick granted two of the Pollaresky Hussars standards to Malachowski Hussars - so they carry a French standard.</p><p>I gave up on trying to paint the dog-tooth edging to the saddle cloth, that amount of detail in yellow on blue was too much like hard work!</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Austrian Hussar Regiment No. 10 - Palatinal</h3><p>Most of the Austrian hussars wore the fur kolback, however as for the Prussians I fancied using Aly Morrison's mirliton heads, so I delved into my reference material to see if I could justify it. I have tried to collate this below; if I have missed or misunderstood something let me know in the comments and I will update it.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">Austrian, Prussian, Russian and French.</h2><p>These ranges are almost complete, in my opinion PA should concentrate on filling the gaps in these before starting something else.</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Austrian Cuirassiers</h4><p>These were the first digital cavalry, and used slot in torsos, my idea, which I thought worked well, however PA have found it difficult to ensure a proper fit of torso into the horse, so the idea was abandoned. </p><p>From the photo below it can be seen that the Austrian cuirassiers are way out of scale. In my opinion they need reprinting, they were sculpted digitally so it should be relatively simple to rescale them. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgipdnoWjJNwPKskm9gR3pdIOyUNefshaffUhuCyrwNc3S2QBm1F6tEhdYFIo_dWPqzOF9RAuwSjgyT5OSzbz3YJAkmVt0wLCewkWw-FCgiB_HMcGmrq7uRd1HqYOOO3RTjg0RnbAkiX51dKHhn1fupmCM0h_kpjJHz2oaZTR15FZSewaM-BZX7Zms6Qg/s2266/Cuirassier%20size%20comparison.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1480" data-original-width="2266" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgipdnoWjJNwPKskm9gR3pdIOyUNefshaffUhuCyrwNc3S2QBm1F6tEhdYFIo_dWPqzOF9RAuwSjgyT5OSzbz3YJAkmVt0wLCewkWw-FCgiB_HMcGmrq7uRd1HqYOOO3RTjg0RnbAkiX51dKHhn1fupmCM0h_kpjJHz2oaZTR15FZSewaM-BZX7Zms6Qg/w400-h261/Cuirassier%20size%20comparison.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Prussian Cuirassiers</h4><p>The Prussian cuirassiers were quite distinct from the Austrians, the main differences being:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Prussian tricorns have steeper fronts.</li><li>The coat tails were significantly shorter.</li><li>Most wore a sabertache like the hussars.</li><li>Rounded saddle cloths.</li></ul><p></p><p>The tricorne is not a major issue as there are suitable heads elsewhere in the range, however the coat tails and sabertache are difficult to convert.</p><p>I have used converted figures from the Rossbach range, however they are a bit on the small side. This is a major omission from the range, all Prussian armies need cuirassiers, so I think they should be one of the top priorities,</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Dragoon Heads</h4><p>The heads in the dragoon moulds are very small so I have avoided using them, instead using the larger heads from the infantry moulds. These are digital and all sit in a single mould, so it should not be difficult to resize and reprint them.</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Russian Cossacks</h4><p>There has been a suggestion of some moulds for cossacks. A set of cossack moulds would be nice, however as far as I am aware they did not play a significant part in set piece battles, so at this stage I think they should drop well down the list. (There is a mould in the Rossbach range which might be useful.)</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Artillery crew in coats</h4><p>It would be nice to have two more moulds with artillery crew in coats to complement the current ones in shirtsleeves.</p><h2 style="text-align: left;">British and Hanoverian (British)</h2><p>The British played an important part in both the European fighting, and also worldwide. If the range is to be complete, then PA need to properly cover the British. </p><h4 style="text-align: left;">British Infantry</h4><p>As discussed in an earlier post, the British infantry were quite distinctive, so would merit a range of four moulds to cover the hat men, fusiliers and grenadiers.</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">British Highlanders</h4><p>These would make an interesting addition, and would probably merit another 4 moulds. When the time comes there needs to be a discussion on the most appropriate poses.</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">British Light Infantry</h4><p>Again an interesting addition, particularly to also cover the various ranger units in North America.</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">British Cavalry</h4><p>The 'heavy cavalry' can probably be covered by the existing dragoon moulds, but the 'light cavalry' with distinctive helmets (which are in the dragoon mould) and hussar style saddle cloths might merit a few moulds.</p><h2 style="text-align: left;">General Propose Figures</h2><h4 style="text-align: left;">Infantry Standing & Firing</h4><p>It has been suggested that figures are produced to cast units standing in line firing. As a gamer I try to avoid using troops in close order firing lines, as they simply do not work when put into columns, however I appreciate that some of you may want them.</p><p>The light infantry mould PA3129 'Austrian Jaeger Light Troops' was modelled with the intention of them doubling as figures for a close order firing line, the equipment is similar to the Prussian line infantry.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBErAakEJTobXpiV14VtzLA1-Ez9fdx3rkrZWCrvHT03Z9LWLNdxwV2t4-JD_V7KdDvbToS3dQvNcXmC75d2dfj5dTJgTQYqRX-fAsegdqhlGKn-lVjUh8Q-kSWbKw5w5mO-kpr9mTC-yK2bRbM5y2XPlzjQV5AgnBw2mVONSIINHDGAGl8TfqXBUcmw/s611/PA3129-seven-years-war-mould-label__69240.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="392" data-original-width="611" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBErAakEJTobXpiV14VtzLA1-Ez9fdx3rkrZWCrvHT03Z9LWLNdxwV2t4-JD_V7KdDvbToS3dQvNcXmC75d2dfj5dTJgTQYqRX-fAsegdqhlGKn-lVjUh8Q-kSWbKw5w5mO-kpr9mTC-yK2bRbM5y2XPlzjQV5AgnBw2mVONSIINHDGAGl8TfqXBUcmw/w400-h256/PA3129-seven-years-war-mould-label__69240.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;">There is however a lack of standing command figures, so at some time it would be nice to add a couple of moulds to contain an officer, drummer, standard bearer and NCO in a standing position.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><h4 style="text-align: left;">Limbers and Wagons</h4><p>There is a limber and horses in the Karoliner range, these look quite different from the new SYW figures, however with replacement heads they fit in reasonably well.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1CsNIg9XBfN0aSL1gLYIFYAzq1i1TvLONz8eYCxy6KACRHgBVwQ1_9is4TP5jzXqQ_4Rpwk19KMNRxRUblEg0jGIF-M9o7R4xHhvK_4VtnmXg_OQf_7mPlSUa0VoiJMftLC0KtO68cE2XCaFeMVMMZqn6HAUvKzmjtV1RLnqaI1OzkFZ5OmTXtJYhMw/s3880/Limber.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1935" data-original-width="3880" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1CsNIg9XBfN0aSL1gLYIFYAzq1i1TvLONz8eYCxy6KACRHgBVwQ1_9is4TP5jzXqQ_4Rpwk19KMNRxRUblEg0jGIF-M9o7R4xHhvK_4VtnmXg_OQf_7mPlSUa0VoiJMftLC0KtO68cE2XCaFeMVMMZqn6HAUvKzmjtV1RLnqaI1OzkFZ5OmTXtJYhMw/w400-h200/Limber.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>Size wise they are a bit smaller, but not too bad, as they are usually some distance apart not a major problem. Although an old book, I often thumb through it for inspiration. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD-jiXfhFdAH7r_vi1Rk83R9BGS8jlZTHsrFi0nui2b0GCV6XOw2LhniFDcc7iG7G05GLQXeDlnZgtLsLKOMZLLCmlTNAYJnHGanwLSZn4SDDQ53-xSUzPlMQrfD5AKoo05WGAMTpxz2x7D9AKS71g-5tfcITNQ2YU5PjFUNpgGXoAHSc91L_aOH0Hqw/s500/9780713708226-uk.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="281" data-original-width="500" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD-jiXfhFdAH7r_vi1Rk83R9BGS8jlZTHsrFi0nui2b0GCV6XOw2LhniFDcc7iG7G05GLQXeDlnZgtLsLKOMZLLCmlTNAYJnHGanwLSZn4SDDQ53-xSUzPlMQrfD5AKoo05WGAMTpxz2x7D9AKS71g-5tfcITNQ2YU5PjFUNpgGXoAHSc91L_aOH0Hqw/w400-h225/9780713708226-uk.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p>I made a list of the illustrations in the book, and then tabulated how to make them using the PA moulds, with colour coding of progress (see the table below):</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Green - a mould for that troop type has been produced.</li><li>Light Green - no specific mould, but it is possible to cast something pretty close by mixing available parts.</li><li>Orange - hopefully moulds for these will be produced in the future.</li><li>Light Blue - nothing in the SYW range, but a satisfactory figure can be made using older ranges.</li><li>Red - not likely to be produced.</li></ul><div>Yes - an indication of someone with too much time on their hands, however it was a useful tool in deciding what parts, particularly heads, needed to be squeezed into the moulds.</div><div><br /></div><div>I've just had a look at the mould list on the PA website, and think the SYW range now has 34 moulds and over 180 separate parts. There are however still a few more things I would like to see done to tidy things up:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Prussian Cuirassiers. This would need to be a 3 or 4 set collection. PA are unsure if these are different enough to sell - thoughts? (I have used Rossbach figures with SYW heads).</li><li>Austrian Cuirassiers. I find these too big to use (so I have 3 x 8 man units just sitting in a box - does anyone want to buy them?). I have now replaced them with Karoliners converted with SYW heads. I personally think that PA should reprint them (they are digital) at the correct scale.</li><li>Dragoon Heads. I find these too small and poorly detailed so do not use them. They are digital so I have asked PA if they can reprint them larger and with more pronounced detail.</li><li>Artillery in Coats. Currently the artillery are in shirt sleeves to cover all armies (my idea - sorry); it would be nice to have a couple of moulds to produce a generic crew in coats.</li></ul><div>Your thoughts would be appreciated.</div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">British and Hanoverian Figures (British)</h2><div>It has always been known that the lack of British figures left a big hole in the SYW range for western Europe; however the decision was made to have a range which would allow full armies to be produced by adding cavalry, artillery, light troops and staff officers before producing yet more infantry. </div><div>With the release of the hussars, there have been requests on the PA Facebook page for British, and PA seem to be listening (it is always worth asking). I recently had a chat with the sculptor, and it seems PA are thinking of going ahead with some British - so keep commenting on their Facebook page - they do read it!</div><div><br /></div><div>I think the following might be worth considering:</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>British Infantry in their distinctive coats - perhaps 4 moulds (see below).</li><li>Highlanders - I will do a separate post to discuss - I think 3 or 4 moulds.</li><li>Artillery Crew - 2 moulds in coats to to fill gap above.</li><li>Cavalry - not sure yet???</li></ul></div><div>I will just cover the British Infantry in this post.</div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;">Hat Men, Fusiliers and Grenadiers</h4><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRCTnUOfWqAdfihH8lo6FkWZ6LHc12LNTCtemgqLSzPUIqDgbmxlFPfLqJMUXzu5osttFd85L_TZsHzQrEc_J6vJFckiuo7YKwuND8bf2ZCSrjf7XM2VqyB6kHzRJ6z8daqBFReBh-jbTDp_0hlHOVTV7QxmIpZGvxgJHPG8oq8N733xUUPxB36plPLQ/s1481/CCF28012023_00001.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1050" data-original-width="1481" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRCTnUOfWqAdfihH8lo6FkWZ6LHc12LNTCtemgqLSzPUIqDgbmxlFPfLqJMUXzu5osttFd85L_TZsHzQrEc_J6vJFckiuo7YKwuND8bf2ZCSrjf7XM2VqyB6kHzRJ6z8daqBFReBh-jbTDp_0hlHOVTV7QxmIpZGvxgJHPG8oq8N733xUUPxB36plPLQ/w400-h284/CCF28012023_00001.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyfXMy-wv3hlwH0TqzMdX1DEUBt8WwHF0JnV4D6JEPiXHRjTWvc8mThDiBMfIbE1SAJ0xzUT6_IBa-y-ZrPsVV0R-gkCynDdA7n7AUdaa8p99szg9DWSPnUzrEYmMHZZ0kgw3rEw5XDC6pNliuvGM9RVW5ay9Z4kukMUbOJ_GFRn0inlGK3yr057B_eA/s1238/CCF28012023_00000.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1238" data-original-width="931" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyfXMy-wv3hlwH0TqzMdX1DEUBt8WwHF0JnV4D6JEPiXHRjTWvc8mThDiBMfIbE1SAJ0xzUT6_IBa-y-ZrPsVV0R-gkCynDdA7n7AUdaa8p99szg9DWSPnUzrEYmMHZZ0kgw3rEw5XDC6pNliuvGM9RVW5ay9Z4kukMUbOJ_GFRn0inlGK3yr057B_eA/w301-h400/CCF28012023_00000.jpg" width="301" /></a></div><div>The illustrations show the typical differences between the hat men and grenadiers at the time of Minden, although there are a lot of variations (for example the hat man's green trousers and stiffened gaiters are an oddity).</div></div><div>The typical differences are:</div><p></p><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px; text-align: left;"><p></p><div style="text-align: left;"><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Obviously the tricorn and mitre caps.</li><li>The grenadier carries a sword, which the line infantry had mostly abandoned.</li><li>Grenadier coats had shoulder wings (well most did).</li><li>Grenadiers had the match holder on the shoulder belt.</li></ul></div><p></p></blockquote><p></p><div>Some hat men are shown with belly pouches, however most illustrations seem to show them without them.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I think it might be worth having two moulds for the private soldiers, each with an advancing and marching figure as follows:</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Hat Men, with tricorn, without wings, sword, belly box or match box.</li><li>Grenadiers with mitre cap, wings, sword, belly box and match box.</li></ul><div><br /></div><div>For the fusiliers use a grenadier mitre on a hat man torso.</div></div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;">Infantry Stance.</h4><p></p><p>On Kronoskaf there is a sketch and description of the stance of the British infantry, which I have copied below. I have a set on the way, and will cast up a few once I get hold of them - postal strike permitting. The pictures are just downloads from PA's website.</p><p>Although released as three separate moulds they are intended to work as a set taking advantage of interchangeable heads and arms.</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">3132 - Officer and Trumpeter in busby</h4><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoX2mHkEoP9GgxbhKCrD6rrf9QaTjzhdQM7OhVjTIPQNFz_5CROrqvFVxQsiKymMmR2_WWgkN_ZAUD0lv-nJAY8RXrWv89h1MB3UZH0hUjJ33RuZ8dixhbYAxMqmWyzAJ8lm7v9aWbn7Km3PJb-6G5fAM0S2z6TIhIu6lM2SKKbAwYCukShcvGKbPEuw/s778/PA3132-seven-years-war-mould-label__49324.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="778" data-original-width="631" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoX2mHkEoP9GgxbhKCrD6rrf9QaTjzhdQM7OhVjTIPQNFz_5CROrqvFVxQsiKymMmR2_WWgkN_ZAUD0lv-nJAY8RXrWv89h1MB3UZH0hUjJ33RuZ8dixhbYAxMqmWyzAJ8lm7v9aWbn7Km3PJb-6G5fAM0S2z6TIhIu6lM2SKKbAwYCukShcvGKbPEuw/s320/PA3132-seven-years-war-mould-label__49324.jpg" width="260" /></a></div><p>The first mould shows a trumpeter in kolback, however looking at the mould contents it can be seen that there is also an arm with a sword, so he can make an officer pointing. However, I was interested to see how the figures have turned out, so spent a few hours casting up enough the figures for a couple of 16 man units.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt0PXcUpsPIkcFh9LfGXyWr-Y7L7qX3CT1zBpgp607gbd_AbRHIJxLbobzk5X078WhY8WMM999jpP2gfkkWRvIT6vNFaEnRzmcqEPUy_9_ZHpXM6JBO6_KUzilcCh8kfHyAm25tYCfdwHlBcx4_1iaOKpAtBp0v0rVQWzrCnFKkxMitGwdeniTOApKMw/s3315/20220822_181736.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2157" data-original-width="3315" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt0PXcUpsPIkcFh9LfGXyWr-Y7L7qX3CT1zBpgp607gbd_AbRHIJxLbobzk5X078WhY8WMM999jpP2gfkkWRvIT6vNFaEnRzmcqEPUy_9_ZHpXM6JBO6_KUzilcCh8kfHyAm25tYCfdwHlBcx4_1iaOKpAtBp0v0rVQWzrCnFKkxMitGwdeniTOApKMw/w400-h260/20220822_181736.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p></p><div style="text-align: left;">My current casting set up is in my garage/wargames room - pretty simple and easy to pack up:<br /><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>The base board is just an offcut of kitchen unit shelving, it is fine under hot figures and small spillages, but would blister if a large lump of melted/hot metal was left in the same place for too long.</li><li>A 300W solder pot (a bit bigger than the one PA sell) - and PA ladle.</li><li>There is also a cheap digital thermometer (the thin twisted black wire on the right).</li><li>Moulds (usually in pairs) are normally just held by 3 elastic bands, but this one needed a bit of extra pressure in the middle to prevent flash, so there is an additional PA clamp.</li><li>I have a pin vice handy to push 1mm holes through the mould sides in difficult areas, in this case it needed vents in the lower tips of both sword scabbards.</li><li>Pliers for getting the figures from the moulds and snips for cutting off the ingates etc.</li></ul><div>Below are photos of the new Grenz figures 'as cast' using Model Metal, I have cut off the ingates etc. but not cleaned them up any further - the head is 'as cast' and just pushed in. There are already a number of hussars in the Rossbach range, however they do not fit in with the new figures, the Prussian one with carbine is actually quite nice, but a little small, whereas the poses in the French moulds are not to my liking.</p><p>I don't know when these will be done, however it is worth having a discussion about what is wanted, before the sculptor starts work?</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Prussian Hussars</h3><p>There is only likely to be one set of hussar moulds, so these will need to be able to cast figures for many nations; consider the Prussians as a starting point as I have some nice pictures. </p><p>Within a cavalry units I generally like to have the following figures:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Officer which is different to the troopers.</li><li>Standard Bearer - hussars did not usually carry standards, but they look good so add one.</li><li>Musician, in this case a trumpeter.</li><li>Trooper.</li></ul><p></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Uniform and Equipment</h4><p>In order to cover all 4 figures, one option would be to provide a mould for each, however as there will be separate heads, right arms and carbines this could be done with less moulds, so possibly allowing for more variety in horse poses. Initially just consider two main body types.</p><p>Equipped with a wide cross belt. If assembled with a sword arm and carbine hung alongside, this will act as a trooper, alternatively with a suitable arm and no carbine he would make a standard bearer (as was done in the dragoons, which look fine).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; (On the games list it is currently just called '7 Years War', as I had not decided what to do when we sent the entry details).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjWG0o2fmVhiS-VfbQwaFQFTtzPbqcQUIyUyt_WEPbp3vUGv2cflV0nnxQn5Gtes8qRisiuWC92xXpG6pDC7SsmAVcHRhHbXXcF98GWyoOFUfAzfCnbvf7z6jHeEVq7Q6jvfmo1zK5Ah5Y0_0zZIRZBg1nD_kcpzy7QolXeHSYzj-Oc00ordzw64x5RWQ=s1200" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="868" data-original-width="1200" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjWG0o2fmVhiS-VfbQwaFQFTtzPbqcQUIyUyt_WEPbp3vUGv2cflV0nnxQn5Gtes8qRisiuWC92xXpG6pDC7SsmAVcHRhHbXXcF98GWyoOFUfAzfCnbvf7z6jHeEVq7Q6jvfmo1zK5Ah5Y0_0zZIRZBg1nD_kcpzy7QolXeHSYzj-Oc00ordzw64x5RWQ=w400-h289" width="400" /></a></div><p>The game will use pretty much all of my Austrian and Prussian figures, with a few Russian cuirassiers giving the Austrians a hand (I wonder how many will notice). The infantry are all from the 'new' SYW range, but as the cavalry moulds are not yet all done, only the dragoons and mounted officers are from the new SYW range, with the hussars and (converted) cuirassiers from the Rossbach and Karoliner ranges</p><p>We are using the 'A Gentleman's War' rules, which are a fun set, these have been modified using a simpler move/activation sequence, to make them more suitable for a large participation game - there are still loads of dice to roll!.</p><p>As I have said, it will be a participation game, and the rules are easy to pick up and there will be plenty of us around to sort out any problems, so if you can come and push around some toys, throw some dice (there are lots of dice) or just see the figures and have a chat it would be good to see you there.</p><p>(Do any of you need any heads for your figures - I have quite a few spare (especially Prussian and Russian Guards), so if you need anything in particular let me know and I will see if I have any and take them to the show?).</p>SteveMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09750604219474369883noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7949706697278532115.post-45038352550592173362021-11-19T18:12:00.006+00:002021-11-21T12:27:57.763+00:00Austrian Jager<p>I've just completed a small unit of Austrian jager,</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HSHl2YqhP7s/YZfmsEu6fkI/AAAAAAAAIrk/YqqgFKy3d9wCeVTSfBOZi6Xn2kL5PX8wACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211119_171305.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HSHl2YqhP7s/YZfmsEu6fkI/AAAAAAAAIrk/YqqgFKy3d9wCeVTSfBOZi6Xn2kL5PX8wACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20211119_171305.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>For these I used the following figures:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>The new infantry kneeling and standing firing</li><li>The new hornist</li><li>The Russian infantry officer with 'musket'</li><li>The Prussian NCO with 'musket' from Russian officer</li><li>The Prussian advancing infantryman</li><li>The new jager head</li></ul><p></p><p>My troops have gaiters rather than the high boots depicted in most illustrations. The figures have gaiters, and the information is contradictory, I did not feel it worth the effort of showing boots, which would be difficult to model on the bent legs.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XxirOb3HXsQ/YZfmsMB0sGI/AAAAAAAAIrg/VDFYL1slfjwWpM0VK5pbt9UsM1qjr68BACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211119_171126.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XxirOb3HXsQ/YZfmsMB0sGI/AAAAAAAAIrg/VDFYL1slfjwWpM0VK5pbt9UsM1qjr68BACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20211119_171126.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>The casket in the mould is not quite right, so I made a couple of modifications:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>The casting has a domed top, whereas I think it should be level - not a difficult job to file it down. (Do it before sticking on the plume, I had not spotted the need to file the top down until after I had glued on the plume, which made it more tricky).</li><li>They are usually shown with a green plume, which is not present in the mould. I made one by cutting the bayonet off the muskets (see below), gluing it on the side, cutting to length (it is easier to cut off the top after gluing, as it gives more to hold as the glue sets (superglue and accelerator)), and then roughening up the sides using a mini-drill.</li></ul><div>All of the figures have the musket cut down to a rifle. The Austrian jager rifle was 1120mm long. Assuming an infantryman is 5'5" (1652mm), with the figures standing 42mm high this gives a length of 28.5mm.</div><div><br /></div><div>I quite enjoyed making these, they are a good example of what we have been trying to do with the range, making a figure which is close to the historical detail by mixing and matching other components.</div>SteveMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09750604219474369883noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7949706697278532115.post-9398058992161142872021-11-05T17:14:00.003+00:002021-11-05T17:26:05.653+00:00Austrian command variations<p>I've been having a play with the mounted 'general', with a bit if filing around the arm locating lug he can be given the sword from the dragoon officer (the sword should probably be filed down to a more gentlemanly epee), With three arm options, the ability to vary the arm angle, and a variety of heads there is a fair scope for making the commanders for our metal armies.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NIctQs5XXFw/YYVkMuERLGI/AAAAAAAAIo8/o6qv-Auulqc7ICtX-oBNs1wUQCrQEY87wCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211105_170149.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1875" data-original-width="2048" height="366" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NIctQs5XXFw/YYVkMuERLGI/AAAAAAAAIo8/o6qv-Auulqc7ICtX-oBNs1wUQCrQEY87wCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h366/20211105_170149.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p><br /></p><p>I have also taken the dragoon officer's horse and body and fitted the bare head and arm with hat from the general. Again the arm needs a bit of filing to make it fit, I decided to have the arm/hat lowered in a sort of respectful greeting - I think it works well. (He needs another coat of varnish - fell over whilst wet!)</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-66M70jKmcLU/YYVktp7qIkI/AAAAAAAAIpI/d_sUQMOBHyQWGIGeuPLZ2WOc-8gk83cDACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211105_170224.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1934" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-66M70jKmcLU/YYVktp7qIkI/AAAAAAAAIpI/d_sUQMOBHyQWGIGeuPLZ2WOc-8gk83cDACLcBGAsYHQ/w378-h400/20211105_170224.jpg" width="378" /></a></div><p></p><p><br /></p><p></p><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;">Moving on from the mounted officers, I painted up the new foot officer as a dismounted 'general', the new figure is modeled with gaiters, however the buttons can easily filed off to allow cavalry boots to be painted on - again a nice figure.</span></div></div></blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DFj-CTCD70M/YYVgqhS-PLI/AAAAAAAAIm0/pT0kjR1Zx1Ukz_TIEp77SUboXZ-J2BeUQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211105_164009.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QlvVWH2sx68/YYVivoRfvWI/AAAAAAAAIoM/yUBtRs5iMVgljnU49pbBY6lPcYNkS4QCACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211105_163942.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1534" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QlvVWH2sx68/YYVivoRfvWI/AAAAAAAAIoM/yUBtRs5iMVgljnU49pbBY6lPcYNkS4QCACLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20211105_163942.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><p></p><p>With a little more effort it is possible to make a nice bare headed 'general' figure on foot. Cut off the sword and hand just above the cuff , then replace it with the cuffed hand and hat from the mounted officer's arm (I suspect it would work just as well using the hand and hat), and slot in the bare head. He should have a sword in his scabbard so glue on a hilt from a French infantry sword. I think the resulting figure is another cracking officer.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3mWCVgH9X3Y/YYVhMcmaQDI/AAAAAAAAInU/mqTQpLs1eqYBqaTbyCeS3tJxlah0spQgQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211105_164124.jpg" style="display: inline; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1455" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3mWCVgH9X3Y/YYVhMcmaQDI/AAAAAAAAInU/mqTQpLs1eqYBqaTbyCeS3tJxlah0spQgQCLcBGAsYHQ/w284-h400/20211105_164124.jpg" width="284" /></a></div><p></p><p><br /></p><p>Next I need some commanders for the other armies.</p><p></p>SteveMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09750604219474369883noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7949706697278532115.post-45769303108004830782021-10-28T20:25:00.005+01:002021-10-28T20:39:06.611+01:00Austrian Command<p> The last of the recent batch of moulds - the Mounted Officers.</p><p>These are painted to represent Austrian general officers. I have made no attempt to paint the intricate gold lace on the clothing and saddle cloths, as it is beyond my ability/patience, and also would be mostly lost under the high gloss finish (that's my excuse).</p><p>I think these are rather splendid gentlemen, worthy to command anyone's armies.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5Klqx_ZZHy8/YXryJnD1MaI/AAAAAAAAIkU/asuCv4FWx-gDXcK2A16Vwb1Dg-QEv_vlwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211028_194446.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1767" data-original-width="2048" height="345" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5Klqx_ZZHy8/YXryJnD1MaI/AAAAAAAAIkU/asuCv4FWx-gDXcK2A16Vwb1Dg-QEv_vlwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h345/20211028_194446.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>The two arms in the mould allow for waving the hat or pointing with a baton, both very nice poses. I have also been playing with some other options, including the arm pointing with a sword from the dragoon mould. I have tried swapping the other way, adding the arm waving the hat and the bare head on the dragoon officer. None fit perfectly, but look fine with a little filing around the locating lug (I will share them when painted).<p></p><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yoI0xrJWvbU/YXryJhucGsI/AAAAAAAAIkY/4MOkTbv4VbUjQn6wak9aaBt2VoTsOIFfACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211028_194505.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1302" data-original-width="2048" height="254" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yoI0xrJWvbU/YXryJhucGsI/AAAAAAAAIkY/4MOkTbv4VbUjQn6wak9aaBt2VoTsOIFfACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h254/20211028_194505.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>The horse/torso is cast in 'scrap' metal, and generally casts OK, however I had difficulty with the heels on the boots, which I built up with 'green stuff', later figures cast with Model Metal were better. The heads and arms are in Model Metal as they give better detail. The hair on the bare head is a bit smooth but paints up fine, the head with the tricorne is from the Russian officer (I really like that head).</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cEeAb1qsu7E/YXryJptagxI/AAAAAAAAIkc/knihlGweaKsN5y2slwvU50VaxqenuVVsgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20211028_194736.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1325" data-original-width="2048" height="259" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cEeAb1qsu7E/YXryJptagxI/AAAAAAAAIkc/knihlGweaKsN5y2slwvU50VaxqenuVVsgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h259/20211028_194736.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>I think with the options of mixing and matching arms from this and the dragoon mould, and the wide range of heads from across the whole range , it should be possible to make quite a varied collection of staff officers (someone has to paint a mounted Russian Guard officer).</p><p>As always comments and suggestions welcome.</p>SteveMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09750604219474369883noreply@blogger.com2
